Holographic, Foil or Clear: Choosing a Premium Sticker Finish

Three finishes make a sticker look premium in very different ways. This guide compares how each is made and where each works best, so you can choose before you request a quote.

Hot foil or metallic ink?

Metallic ink is printed like any other color: lower cost, with a soft shimmer. Hot foil is a separate finishing step that gives a brighter, mirror-like result. Ask for both on your quote if you are deciding on cost. See Gold Foil Labels.

White underprint on clear stickers

Inks are semi-transparent, so solid colors and white text on clear film need a white ink layer printed underneath. We mark exactly where the underprint goes on your free digital proof. Choosing holographic gloss or matte

Holographic gloss gives the most shine; holographic matte softens it. Tell us whether you want our standard rainbow pattern or a custom pattern. See Holographic Vinyl Stickers.

What is the difference between hot foil and metallic ink?

Metallic ink is printed like any other color and has a soft shimmer. Hot foil is pressed on with heat and a metal die for a brighter, mirror-like result.

Why do clear stickers need white ink?

Inks are semi-transparent. A white underprint makes solid colors and white text opaque on clear film; we show where it goes on your proof.

Can I choose a custom holographic pattern?

Yes. We offer a standard rainbow pattern and custom holographic patterns, in gloss or matte.
