RAISED SPOT GLOSS SPECIALISTS
Custom Spot UV Labels
Spot UV is a finishing effect - a raised gloss varnish applied to part of a printed label. If you are looking for UV DTF transfer stickers that bond permanently to glass and metal, see UV DTF Transfer Stickers.
A glossy, raised varnish applied to selected areas over a matte base — contrast and a tactile highlight for your logo, icon or accent detail.
Gloss Where You Want It, Matte Everywhere Else
Spot UV is a clear, glossy varnish applied only to selected areas of a label, printed over a matte or soft-touch base rather than across the whole surface. The coating cures raised, so it sits slightly above the surrounding stock — you see the shine and you can feel a fine ridge where your fingertip crosses from matte into the varnished area. That combination of visual shine and physical texture is what separates spot UV labels from a standard flat print, and it's a finish that reads as considered and premium the moment someone picks up the product.
The whole idea behind spot UV is contrast. A logo, an icon, a border, a line of text, or a custom pattern gets the glossy raised coating, while the rest of the label stays matte and flat. That contrast does the work that extra color or a larger logo would otherwise have to do — the eye is drawn straight to the varnished shape because it catches light differently from everything around it. It's a subtle technique, but an effective one, and it works equally well on a minimal logo mark or a more decorative border or pattern.
Spot UV vs full gloss lamination is a question we get often, and the difference comes down to selectivity. Full gloss lamination coats the entire label in a uniform shine — every element, every color, the whole surface reflects light the same way, and there's no contrast built into the finish itself. Spot UV keeps the base matte and only glosses the areas you choose, so it creates hierarchy: some parts of the label are quiet and flat, others are glossy and raised. If you want a uniform shiny look across the whole label, full gloss lamination is the right call; if you want one detail to stand out from a matte background, spot UV is the technique built for that.
Spot UV also combines cleanly with other premium finishes. Layer it over a foil-stamped logo and you get metallic shine plus a raised glossy coating — two dimensions of contrast on a single detail. Pair it with embossing and the raised texture from the emboss die reinforces the raised feel of the varnish, so the highlighted area is both physically taller and visibly glossier than the rest of the label. Both combinations are common on labels where a single mark — a crest, a monogram, a brand icon — needs to carry the most attention on the package.
We run spot UV on paper, cardstock, vinyl, PP and PET, pairing it with a matte or soft-touch base finish so the contrast reads clearly. It shows up most often on premium branding, luxury packaging, and any label where a specific product detail — a logo, a seal, a certification mark — needs to be highlighted rather than treated the same as the rest of the design. As with every finish we offer, spot UV labels are die-cut to any custom shape and size, MOQ is low, and every order includes a free digital proof showing exactly where the gloss will sit against the matte base before we run production. Request a quote with your material, size and finish combination and we'll confirm exact MOQ, pricing and lead time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Answers about our custom spot UV labels.
What does spot UV look and feel like?
Spot UV is a glossy, raised varnish applied only to selected areas of a label — a logo, an icon, a border or a pattern — over a matte or soft-touch base. Because the coating sits slightly above the surrounding stock, you can both see the shine and feel a subtle ridge when you run a fingertip across it, which is what gives spot UV its tactile, premium quality.
What’s the difference between spot UV and full gloss lamination?
Full gloss lamination coats the entire label surface in a uniform shine, so there’s no contrast between elements. Spot UV does the opposite — it leaves the base finish matte and adds gloss only where you choose, so the varnished areas pop against the flat background. Spot UV creates contrast and hierarchy; full gloss lamination creates uniform shine across the whole label.
Can I use spot UV to highlight just my logo or specific areas?
Yes, that’s the most common use of spot UV. We apply the raised gloss coating precisely to your logo, a border, an icon, text, or a custom pattern, while the rest of the label stays matte, so the highlighted area draws the eye without needing extra color or size.
Can you combine spot UV with foil or embossing?
Yes. Spot UV pairs well with foil stamping — a foiled logo with a spot UV layer on top adds metallic shine plus a glossy raised finish — and with embossing, where the raised texture and the glossy coating reinforce each other for maximum tactile and visual impact. We’ll advise on the best combination once we see your artwork.
What’s the minimum order quantity and lead time?
You can start from 100 pcs per design. Unit price drops significantly at 500 pcs and again at 1,000+ pcs, so tell us your quantity range and we will quote the options side by side. Sample lead time is 5–7 business days, and bulk lead time is 7–14 business days after your proof is approved.
Do you provide a free design proof?
Yes, every order includes a free digital proof showing where the spot UV will sit, how it interacts with the matte base, and any foil or emboss combination, so you can confirm the design before we run production.
